Late Spring

Moonlight

After a long, rainy and rather dark few months, the light has finally broken through and there’s a lot to share with you!

I’ve been working hard on new images, moving into abstract and impressionistic pieces such as the one above. This was created from one of my best-selling images and reimagined as an abstract piece called ‘Moonlight’. I’m really enjoying this process and seeing the prints arrive is always very exciting. This one in particular has generated quite a bit of interest which is really encouraging. I’m looking forward to showing much more of this style and several of these new images are on my portfolio page here .

Six @ Number Fifteen Bond Street

Meanwhile it’s been a busy couple of months getting involved in some great events. The first is a pop-up shop in central Bath 12-14 May. This is a great initiative by Bath and North East Somerset Council called Made in Bath - they let out one of their empty retail premises to local artists for the weekend. I’ve curated a great selection of artists for the shop as you can see from the flyer below. We’ll be open on Friday 12th May 10am - 7pm (with drinks from 5pm - please join us!), Saturday 13th May 10am - 5pm and Saturday 14th May 11am - 5pm. Happily this coincides with the opening of the Bath Festival so retail therapy can be combined with culture. We’re at 15 New Bond Street, at the bottom of Milsom Street opposite L’Occitane and we’d love to see you.

Bear Flat Artists Open Studios

The next event takes place over the third bank holiday weekend 27th - 29th May. Bear Flat Artists are holding their 20th Open Studios, with 23 venues open around Bear Flat in Bath. This is a really enjoyable few days where the venues are close together with a huge range of artists showing paintings, ceramics, jewellery, sculpture and much more. I’ll be with four other artists in the Methodist Church on Bruton Avenue, Venue 23. The list of venues and artists is here and I’ll be showing some of my latest work, framed up and in limited editions. I hope you can make the trail and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for some good weather - one of our bank holidays this months has to be dry, surely! Below is a page from this month’s edition of Bath Life about the trail, with one of my new images featured.

Immersion - an exhibition at Burdalls Yard, Bath

But perhaps the most exciting thing to share with you is my solo exhibition, to be held at Burdalls Yard in Bath between June 27th and August 25th. Burdalls Yard is a great venue which runs a programme of classes, gigs, performances and exhibitions. My work will be up in the gallery/cafe space, giving me the chance to curate a selection of my newest work. I’m busy choosing, printing and framing pieces already - some of which will appear in the two venues above as a preview - which is a really interesting and challenging process. There’s nothing like an exhibition to make you really think about which images work as a group and it’s fair to say it’s an ongoing process!

So, as you can see, there has been a lot going on. I’m still taking work to various markets - the Local Makers Market in Bradford on Avon on June 17th and July 1st, Bath Contemporary Artists Fair on July 9th and the Tobacco Factory Market in Bristol on 4th and 25th June and 30th July. Please come by and say hi if you’re around!

And as if all of that wasn’t enough I’ve been getting some absolutely gorgeous prints from my lovely printers in Dorset. It’s always a leap of faith asking someone else to print your work but I couldn’t be more pleased with the prints which they’ve done for me. So if you’d like any of my images in a larger size I can supply these with absolute confidence in the quality of the print. I also have a wonderful local framer and can advise on the right frame for you so please get in touch and I’ll be happy to help.

Thanks for reading, I wish you a warm and sunny summer and hope to see you at one of my events!

All the best

Shay x
