Puglia

Last month I had a wonderful week in Puglia with Light and Land Photography. For the photography fans among you our tutors were Charlie Waite and Astrid McGechan. To spend a week with these two is luxury indeed and both of them were incredibly generous with their time and knowledge.

We stayed three nights in Giovinazzo, just north of Bari. This is a small coastal town, not very touristy but still with plenty to see (and places to eat).

From here we explored the local olive groves and vineyards, and spent a day in Matera. We then moved to Alberobello, taking in Polignano a Mare before spending our last day in Alberobello itself, pictured above showing the distinctive trulli conical houses. A limited colour palette, geometric shapes, gorgeous stone tiles and blue sky gave us a perfect recipe, and some of my images are here.

The memory of the warmth of Italy will sustain me through the winter months. For the next few weeks I’ll be out and about at Christmas markets selling my prints, starting this Saturday at the Local Makers Market in Bradford on Avon - St Margaret’s Hall, 10 til 3. Come and say hi.

If you’re interested in photography tours, have a look at Light and Land - highly recommended.
